I lost interest in my Hornet for a while following the last crash because something was robbing it of power and I figured it was going to be tough to sort out.  It just wouldn't pull as much pitch as it used to and would lose headspeed like an old ho during a flip or roll.   Question  Question  Question  Was the power drain a bad servo? Something else electronic?  A bent shaft somewhere?  Surely not the gears, which were set up carefully? (Famous last words).

In the end, the problem turned out to be the pinion was too tight against the main gear.  It looked good, felt good, sounded good and had been adjusted to the high spot on the main gear but nevertheless was adjusted badly.  Because the meshing of the pinion is hard to see and the freedom of movement impossible to tell due to the motor's magnetic field, it is an easy thing to get wrong.  Just the slightest bit too close to the main gear and the helicopter flew entirely different.

Now I think I understand why two guys get dramatically different results from the same kind of motors.  Long ago, I made up my mind not to recommend motors anymore because of this.  Speaking of motors, a new Razor H2 should be arriving at my door shortly.  My Raptor 50 has made me a little more power hungry so it's time to upgrade the motor.  Can't hardly wait - this thing is such a sweetheart to fly already.   Dancing

Setting the gears is a bit hit and miss sometimes.

I hope your new Razor is up to the job (acro action). On the old Hornet BB I remember reading some reports that the RazorV2 was a light weight motor and performed best in a light setup (< 320g).
'Razor H2' is that a new type?

Yes, the H2 is a stronger Razor than the MHv2 (which is what I have now).  It's not well known as most jumped onto the Hackers, Axi's and Twisters when the MHv2 proved not as strong on the Hornet 2 as it was on the original.  By the time this H2 motor came out the TRex was all the rage already.  It's probably not the strongest available but I'm expecting this motor will be extremely efficient like the rest of my Razors and I chose it so I wouldn't have to mess with the model's CG or the pinion like I would with an outrunner.

Well, heck, my new motor isn't here yet and I just found out that Razors are temporarily out of production.  Their status is being updated on their home page at http://www.razormotors.com.
